Exciting Spring Quarter Volunteer Projects for Artists!

Here are two fantastic opportunities to take part in the international community and have an impact on others' lives. Both of these projects promise to fun!

Seattle-Surabaya Sister City Mural Project

Did you know that Seattle has a sister city in Indonesia that some of your fellow Indonesian students are from? Find out more at: http://www.sssca.org/

We're doing an international partnership program with Ciputra University students in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia that will provide learning about each other's cities, schools and culture. The end product of this project will be a mural representing Surabaya and our Indonesian friends at Ciputra University, while they will be creating a mural of for us in their school as well. To get involved, get a sign up sheet from Brad Huggins at bhuggins@aii.edu This project starts week one of Spring Quarter, so sign up NOW!

Tsunami Shoe Project

Looking for serious student designers and artists to take part in this tennis shoe project that will culminate in a fund-raiser for Red Cross Japan to benefit the reconstruction of Japan's damages from the 3-11-11 Tsunami.

This project is a combined effort of The Art Institute of Seattle, Blank Canvas (run by Ai Seattle Alumnus Kristen Young), Utrecht Art Supply and YOU!

Andree Carter and Daniel Dejos are two artists already signed up to lead the inspirational charge on this cool event.

If you’re interested in coloring, painting, decoration a pair of white canvas Converse tennis shoes for this project, utilize this form to apply for a pair of shoes. Artists and Designers are encouraged to draft out their designs ahead of time in order to truly make each pair of shoes as cool as you can, so that the final product is worthy of sale at a silent auction near the end of Spring Quarter.

Participating artists will check their pair of shoes out and then need to turn them back in to Brad Huggins by May 20th, at which time you will receive a goody back of donated items from Utrecht and associated vendors.

If you would like to decorate a duplicate pair of shoes for your own collection or simply participate but not be involved in the auction, you may purchase a second pair to keep at a discounted cost from Utrecht Art Supply.

If you'd like a sign-up form, email me and I'll get it to you: bhuggins@aii.edu
