Black History Celebration with Global Heat tomorrow!

Black History Month Celebration
Friday, February 25th 2011
5pm in the SC Photo Studio
Music, Food, Discussion, Prizes and Fun!

The Black History Month Celebration was a real hit last year and Global Heat dropped some serious beats with a fantastic line up that included keyboards, guitar, base, drums, imbira and some fantastic funk, soul and hip hop style vocals. They're back again and Culinary Club is going to be serving up New Orleans inspired cuisine led by Chef Paul Redman.
Come on out to celebrate African Americans' and the greater African Diaspora's contribution to all of our history and culture.

Here are the responses to the question, "What does Black History Month mean to you?" from last year's event:
  • " A time to remember that prejudice and bigotry shouldn't exist at all!" "Remember the golden rule!"
  • " Looking back and seeing the beauty, contributions, pain and struggle and learning to be a better advocate, friend, and global citizen going forward."
  • " A month celebrating the most inspirational, intellectual minds of mankind."
  • " Fun, joy, time to bring friends, culture, & food together to spend time to just simply enjoy life and be thankful for what we have."
  • " Should be more incorporated into main American History."
  • " An opportunity to learn more about a unique & beautiful culture."
  • " The start of bringing together many cultures. To show us what we can accomplish if we all work together."
  • " Black history means the world to me. Although I recognize it every day in my life, I specifically recount what accomplishments my people have had throughout centuries. I realize as a young Black woman, that I have no excuse to not succeed in life. I take pride in my people, and where we have come and where we are going. Eventually on a road to true unity & equality. I know it will happen."
  • Recognizing the ongoing challenges faced by Black Americans. The not yet fully realized civil rights that every American deserves. Honoring the culture & unique perspectives of every culture."
